ACRO Welcomes HHS Efforts to Reimagine Clinical Trials

Association for Clinical Research Organization (ACRO) Executive Director Clay Alspach released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced several new initiatives to accelerate clinical trials:

“To keep pace with the rapid acceleration of global scientific innovation, the rules governing clinical research have to evolve. Patients and innovators need a regulatory framework that can move in step with the advances we’re witnessing in science and technology. Exploring and adopting smart, responsible steps to streamline and accelerate clinical trials, especially early-stage trials, can help bring new treatments to patients faster and strengthen the ability of the United States to maintain its global leadership in medical innovation.

“We’re encouraged to see the administration consider new approaches to making the clinical trial process more efficient while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and efficacy. ACRO’s members are on the front lines of clinical research, working with patients, investigators, sponsors, and regulators to conduct trials across the United States and around the world. We look forward to bringing our real-world experience to this important conversation and working with the administration and other stakeholders as these efforts move forward.”
