Association for Clinical Research Organizations (ACRO) Executive Director Clay Alspach released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a new initiative to advance the development of treatments for rare diseases:
“Clinical research and technology organizations play a critical role in the development of new medicines and see firsthand the unique challenges of bringing innovative treatments to patients with rare diseases. Nearly one in 10 Americans lives with a rare disease, yet very few rare diseases have approved treatment options. We share the goal of accelerating the development of new medicines for these patients and look forward to working with the administration as this initiative moves forward to help advance safe and effective treatments for patients with unmet medical needs.”
