Site Resource Grant Spotlight: Brooklyn Clinical Research

ACRO’s Site Resource Grants are designed to serve as seed funding to help clinical research sites explore innovative strategies for improving clinical trial enrollment. Each grant allows the grantee site to enact a 12-month pilot project designed to educate and engage with their unique local community.

In the heart of Brooklyn, New York, Brooklyn Clinical Research has long been dedicated to advancing medicine through expanded access to clinical research for populations that are historically underrepresented in scientific studies. With support from ACRO, Brooklyn Clinical Research is embarking on an innovative retrospective analysis aimed at better understanding vaccine hesitancy through the lens of recruitment data from both vaccine and non-vaccine studies.

The project perfectly reflects Brooklyn Clinical Research’s core mission: to advance medicine by making clinical trials faster, more inclusive, and more reliable, so new therapies are proven safe and effective for the populations they are meant to serve. By comparing demographic recruitment data from past vaccine studies with similar non-vaccine research, the team hopes to uncover patterns that may shed light on why certain populations are more hesitant about vaccines, and how outreach strategies can be tailored to address such concerns.

For Brooklyn Clinical Research, this work is more than an academic exercise. It’s an opportunity to refine community outreach methods and develop insights that could benefit the broader ecosystem by improving engagement with populations that have been historically marginalized in clinical research. The site is particularly focused on strengthening partnerships with local community organizations, recognizing that collaboration and trust are key to meaningful impact.

Looking ahead, the team at Brooklyn Clinical Research hopes to share lessons learned with colleagues across the industry, emphasizing the importance of epidemiologically representative recruitment and inclusive outreach. By enrolling diverse participants and creating data-driven strategies to address hesitancy, they are helping ensure that clinical studies mirror the real-world populations who will ultimately benefit from new therapies.
